Happenings.

We had a lot going on this past week. Some good. Some less than good. The good mainly revolving around delicious food, spending lots of time together, and more delicious food. The bad consisting mostly of a grumpy 4 month old and long work days for Trevor.

Here are some of the highlights (and a few lowlights) of the week...

Instead of going out with every other couple in Salt Lake, we decided to stay in on Valentine's Day and wait until the weekend to go out. We took advantage of the nice weather and went for a walk, caught up on some of the TV shows we watch, and made some delicious homemade pasta with hazelnut and sun dried tomato pesto together for dinner.

Not only was my cute husband a good pasta dough maker, but he was also a good gift giver this Valentine's Day. He got me this necklace, which is my new favorite. I wear it all the time to remind me of the boys I love so much.

The middle part of the week was the not so great part. Trevor had parent teacher conferences and was gone all day long for a few days. Which wouldn't be all that bad, expect our cute little boy had some of the worst days he has had in a long time.

All last week he had been acting fussier than normal, but Wednesday and Thursday were the worst. He stopped sleeping and eating normally. His little cheeks would get really red and flushed and he would feel warm. He just wanted to be held and snuggled all day long and didn't want to play with his toys at all. He is doing better this week, but still has periods where he just doesn't act like himself. So we think he might be teething, because he also started rubbing his gums and chewing on his hands constantly. But who knows. We are new to this whole parenting thing.

After a few long days Trevor had a very welcomed 4 day weekend. Trevor's mom was very generous and babysat Thompson on Friday night and most of Saturday to give us a break. Even though he spent too many nights away from us when he was a newborn, I had a hard time leaving Thompson overnight, especially since he hadn't been feeling good. I may have left Trevor's mom with a pageful of instructions,    and made sure we checked in on him every few hours.

Despite my worry though it was really nice to have a break. We went to The New Yorker for dinner on Friday night and had some really, really good food. We also listened to the rich old guy next to us talk about his vintage wine that he had brought with him, and the chef even came and asked to try some. Apparently we miss out on some good stuff by the way they talked about this man's wine.

Saturday morning we went to Bruges Waffles and Frites. I had heard rumors of this place before, and have wanted to go for some time. Word on the street is correct - this place is insanely delicious. Like best waffle I have ever had good. And extra crispy fries good too.

What made the food even better is that while we were eating, the most ridiculous/strangest/funniest/awkward thing happened right in front of us. It was raining and Bruges was packed so we just took our food to our car to eat. As we sat eating parked across from a random building next to Bruges, we saw this photographer taking a bunch of pictures. She looked like just a nice mormon mom photographer in her mid thirties or so. But she was taking pictures of this young woman in a skanky evening gown type thing in the most provocative poses. And she was directing her on poses. The girl was trying to be all sexy, walking all seductively towards the camera, running her hands through her hair, etc, etc. And it just was not working for her at all. It was awkward. So then they both go to their car. The "model" comes back out wearing a blazer and jeans, and we are happy she decided to try some more modest shots. Until she turns around. And is wearing nothing but a little black bra under her blazer. And lets just say she was not the most physically fit of individuals. I don't think less clothes was really the way to go for her. I am not sure what the whole photo shoot was all about. But apparently it called for shots of this girl pressed up against chain-link fence wearing just a bra under her jacket. It was even more awkward.

After our delicious food and the frightening photo shoot we witnessed, we went and saw Harry Potter and the Whatever Movie They Are On. We hadn't seen a movie in the theaters together for a long, long time, so it was fun to do something different. Then we headed down to pick up this little cutie because I was missing him.

Even though it was hard leaving Thompson and I almost didn't, it really was nice to have a break with Trevor. Plus, I got to hang out with these two studs the rest of the weekend, so despite a few rough days, it was a pretty good week.

Love this article.

I guess it is not just humans that are repulsed by Creed, according to the following article:
"Norwegian Boy Fends Off Wolves With Creed Song"

Trevor and I feel the Black Eyed Peas would work just as well if anyone should find themselves in a situation in which they need to fend off wild animals with horrible music.

Some Family Pictures

It is crazy how much our little baby is beginning to look like a little boy.  Here is the latest and the greatest from the Wright Family Photo Album.

Why is my baby getting so big so fast?

We took Thompson in for his four month appointment today. He is doing great and is now about 2.75 times as big as he was when he was born. He is 13 lbs 3 oz and 24 inches. And he has gone from the 1st and 2nd percentile in weight and height to the 13th and 14 percentile in weight and height.

He also got some more vaccines today, which, in combination with the Tylenol I have been giving him, has left him in quite a loopy/sad/sleepy/not-his-normal-happy-self state.

It is still hard to believe we have a 4 month old. It is still hard to believe we even have a child sometimes. Time is going by too fast. Soon he will be crawling and then running around the house and then he will be going to school and I will cry because he has grown up way too fast. Until then I am just going to enjoy those chubby little cheeks and wrists of his.

Laughing...kind of.

The last few weeks Thompson has been starting to laugh. At least we think. Either that or he just likes to grunt loudly when he is happy and smiling. Whatever it is, it is pretty cute.

Such a goof.

The other day I was making dinner while Thompson was playing in his bouncer. I turned around to check on him and found him playing with his reflection in the mirror. It's not the first time he has flirted with himself, but this time he was making the funniest faces - faces I have never even seen him make before. He is such a silly little kid. I am thinking he is going to take after his dad when it comes to personality. Which kind of scares me.

I need to stop.

For a long long long time I have been trying (more like just wanting) to organize recipes that I have collected over the years. Ones that I have tried and loved and ones that I am wanting to make. I like cooking a lot. And I like trying new recipes. And I get really bored cooking the same things. So I have developed a habit of browsing through and saving any recipe that intrigues me. This last month I finally got serious and started organizing my favorite recipes and putting them into an online recipe book here.

In the process of going through all the recipes I have stored in various places and ways, I came across some startling numbers:

Number of cook books I have: 19 (excluding the 5 I have checked out from the library right now)

Number of recipes I have bookmarked: 106

Number of recipes I have saved on my computer: 248

Number of recipes I have saved on allrecipes.com, epicurious.com, and foodtv.com: 988 (I really wish I was only exaggerating about this one)

Number of recipes I have cut out and saved from random places: too scared to count

Is it considered hoarding if it is only recipes?

Bath Time

Thompson has always loved baths, but he is loving them even more lately. He laughs and splashes and smiles through the whole thing, no matter how grumpy he was beforehand. And he always screams at me for a few minutes when I take him out, even though he has been in so long that his toes are completely wrinkled.

Some bath time cuteness:
