Boston

Last week Trevor and I were in Boston for our final trip of the summer. Trevor had some research to do there, and I tagged along since it happened to fall on our anniversary. Thompson got to stay with Grandma Wright, which he (and we) were quite excited about. We had never been to Boston before, and we loved the city's mix of modern and historical architecture. Being in a big city reminded me of and made me miss Chicago.

Trevor spent his time during the day researching. I tried not to get too lost exploring the city on my own.

In the evenings we toured the city together. And ate lots and lots of good food, of course. Salt Lake City may have some good food, but we didn't even know where to begin eating all the deliciousness that Boston had to offer. Besides binging on the best food, we also enjoyed a visit to the Boston temple, a trip out to the beach, and a night out at Faneuil Hall.

This is where we ate some really good (americanized) Cambodian food and where Trevor accidentally ate food off of somebody else's plate. It is a long story, full of awkwardness.

Some of the sights around the city:

If you ever wondering if it is a good idea to buy rapidly melting ice cream sandwiches seconds before you get on a packed subway, let me tell you, it is not.

The picture below was right after an hour long bus/subway commute, and immediately before we learned exactly why google walking directions always contains this caveat: "Walking directions are in beta. Use caution – This route may be missing sidewalks or pedestrian paths". But it was worth seeing the temple at sunset.

This is where a random 40 year-old Chinese lady came and held Trevor's hand. Interlacing fingers and everything. Was it an accident? Maybe. But most likely not.

Trevor's MTC companion who served in Lowell, MA told us we had to go to Kelly's while we were in Boston. He seriously couldn't stop talking about it. Even though it took a long trip out to the beach to eat there, now Trevor can't stop talking about it. I have to admit, it was the best roast beef sandwich I have ever eaten. (Side note: I kept saying it was like an Arby's, but with real, quality ingredients. Trevor told me to never defile the name of Kelly's by using such a comparison).

We can't believe we survived this crazy summer. We loved every vacation, but I think next time we might try to spread them out a bit. The best part of our Boston trip ending and coming home to reality? Seeing this cute little face again.
