For Uncle J.

Hey Uncle J. I have something I want to tell you.

Good luck on your first day as a big middle schooler!

You are going to do great. You are like the smartest and most awesome kid to ever start the 6th grade.

-Love, Dr. T {aka Thompson}

Thanks, Toys R Us summer clearance. You will provide us hours of entertainment.

Last week Thompson had a play date with a few of his little baby buddies. My friend, Kalie, who hosted the get together, had the genius idea of setting up a little kiddie pool to let them splash around in. Thompson LOVED it. After hearing that it was a Toys R Us summer clearance purchase, I decided I must get in on some of that action. So, Trevor and I went over and bought a few summer toys to try out over the weekend.

We did Thompson's cousin Ethan proud and went for the Cars kiddie pool. We also got a few little new pool/bath toys that he couldn't stop playing with. Despite the fact that the water was freezing, he loved splashing around.

Once goosebumps set in though, I decided he needed to come out and get a good snuggle.

Which lasted for about .05 seconds. Then it was back to playing, as usual.

{side note: I realize his hair is starting to look a little girly in the above pictures. That, combined with the awesome mullet he has been rocking in the back should warrant a haircut. We just haven't been able to bring ourselves to do it. Maybe once strangers start asking how old our little girl is...maybe then. He would make a cute little girl though, yes?}

We also got a little bubble blowing machine, which was met with...well we aren't exactly sure. He kept wanting to try and pop the bubbles and play with them. And he didn't want me to stop blowing them. As you can tell though, he looked completely unamused, even when he would catch a bubble to pop.

By the end we did see a slight glimmer of interest. Maybe next time around he will have less of a poker face with the bubbles. Or maybe next time around we will have to combine the pool and the bubbles. That may really confuse him about how to react.

Catching up.

Here are a few things we have been up to of late:

Saying goodbye to Trevor's brother for two years. Watch out, Lubbock, TX. Elder Wright is coming for you.

Chowing at our first food truck experience.

Swinging.

Finishing another semester of graduate school.

Making the rounds to all the local farmers markets.

Finally learning that sitting up to play is a good thing.

Celebrating the end of a very, very busy month by discovering the deliciousness that is brunch at Pago on 9th and 9th. Go there and get their almond french toast. Oh and their warm brie. Oh and their chicken hash.

Using the increase in free time to actually start cooking real meals again.

Finding a new favorite ice cream flavor. Ben and Jerry's Late Night Snack. Vanilla ice cream with salted caramel and chocolate covered potato chips. Yeah, I won't say how many pints of this we have consumed since first discovering it.

And replacing a gummy smile for an increasingly toothy one.
